Maui, Hawaii

I consider myself pretty lucky! I've been to three of the four main islands in Hawaii. My husband and I went to Oahu for our 5th wedding anniversary in 2007, then, again in 2010, to Kauai for our dear friends the Mummas' wedding (which I was honored to photograph).  At the end of last year, my dad won a trip to Maui, and, since my mom wasn't able to go with him, I had the honor. One thing you should know about me is I get my sense of adventure from my Dad. But, even I can't keep up with him. It was five days jam packed full of fun! So, I thought I would just share the highlights! Full disclosure, all of these pictures (with the exception of the second one, and those from Alii Nui) were taken with my iPhone.

As soon as we stepped off the plane, I took a deep breath in. It smelled exactly the way I remembered it! Salty, fresh, with a little bit of moisture in the air. We checked into our gorgeous hotel and were then treated to a beautiful dinner on the beach. It was a nice and relaxing end to a day full of travel.
The next day we walked around and did some shopping in Lahaina!
If you ever go to Hawaii, do yourself a favor and upgrade your rental to a convertible. I've done it with, and without, so I'm a professional (wink). I promise you'll thank me!
Later that night we were treated to dinner and a show at Warren and Annabell's. It's a comedy magic show, and I know what you must be thinking. But, seriously, it was SO fun! I would recommend this show to anyone. It was non-stop laughs!
The next day our group took the Alii Nui out to Molokini Crater where we snorkeled. I'm not usually a fan of snorkeling, holding my breath and seeing all the fishies ("please don't touch me, please don't touch me") isn't really my cup of tea. But, I honestly really enjoyed it. It was so beautiful and peaceful. And, I didn't even flinch when this guy swam right underneath me.
Okay, okay, a three foot shark isn't really anything to get your panties in a wad about. However, I can say I saw a shark while snorkeling! So...Boom! We rented an underwater camera and there was a photographer on board as well. As a result, we have A LOT of pics. Here are a few of my favorites! Top two are mine, bottom his.
The next morning we woke up nice and early to watch the sunrise at Haleakala crater, a once active volcano that's summit is so high you're above the clouds. It was SO cold. Here we are looking like little red nosed Eskimoes.
It was totally worth it! There is 0% photo shopping done to this photo.
You can see it was packed full of people, and as the sun finally comes up, they do this amazing chant. It was totally spectacular!
We then biked down the mountain. It was scary, fun, and exhilarating all at the same time. Haha, the guide totally posed us like that!
On the last day of our trip we took a plane over to Oahu so my dad could see Pearl Harbor. We toured the Bowfin submarine, The Battleship Mississippi, and of course saw the USS Arizona Memorial. Here are a few favorites!
Last, but not least, here's my favorite picture of us as we head home from a wonderful daddy-daughter trip!
Thanks for the awesome memories, Dad. Love you!
