Phoenix Portrait Photography: For Joanna

I had a blast with the Smiths and their four small children! Their children are darling, I promise...but, today it's all about the Mrs. If you're no stranger to this blog, then you know how passionate I am about weight loss (or a healthy life-style). I've known Joanna for a few years and I asked her if she wouldn't mind sharing a bit of her recent weight loss success. She obliged...

I wanted to lose weight for my little sister's wedding. I went to my doctor and had a complete meltdown (sound familiar?). I told him I needed help losing weight. Little did I know he was specializing in bariatric medicine (weight loss).  I met with him every month so I could be accountable to someone. He was a great support to me. I followed his program of a low carb, high protein diet. That day I ran nearly a mile without stopping. Over the next five months, I lost 35 pounds and increased my distance to six miles!!!!  I am in a running group with a great group of girls that are so supportive. We run 4-6 miles three days a week. This was the first time in 8 years that "lose 30 pounds" wasn't at the top of my New Year's resolution list. One gal told me it looks like I've been running my butt off! Little did she know. . . I feel great and I love the way I look! I have enjoyed replacing my old wardrobe that has "outgrown me." I also use affirmations like "I enjoy being my ideal weight," Excess weight melts away effortlessly and easily," and, "I am comfortable in my skin." I also made it a matter of prayer. One thing I heard half way through this process is "Nothing tastes as good and being skinny feels!" (love this quote...I might have stolen it before?) For me, chocolate chip cookies come pretty close, but it's still not as wonderful and going down a pant size!!!

Thank you for sharing your story Joanna, you look wonderful!  If you would like to read more about my personal weight loss journey you can do so here, here, or here. If your looking for a support system, Joanna and I are both ready and willing, and we both know a great doctor if your looking for one (wink).

Joanna - Where do you run? I'd love to join your group. I'm training for a race right now and sometimes I get bored of running alone. email me!
